This
time of year may be "in between" for avid fishermen,
but that doesn't stop them from reminiscing about the early
morning "risings" and the thrill of matching the
hatch in spring or summer, or, anticipating the frosty excitement
of ice fishing just a few short weeks away. But in the Coburn
household it's a year-round interest and vocation. Annie and
Mike Coburn operate Kineo Flies and Guide Service out of their
home and Pritham Avenue in Greenville Junction, just across
the street from the Greenville Veterinary office.

Fly
tying is an ancient art, believed to have started in Scotland
in the 1700s. Creating a fly from silken thread and feathers
which will imitate a fish in the water in an exacting craft
indeed and one of the most famous flies ever created came
from Maine, in the Rangeley are. In 1924, Carrie Stevens came
up with her famous fly - the Gray Ghost. This fly is purported
to be one of the finest imitations ever of a smelt in water.
Carrie landed a record-breaking 6 lb. 13 oz. Brook trout with
it - and the fly is still used extensively to this day.
